About the Founder

Alekha Choksey

Alekha Choksey is a student at Bombay International School in Mumbai, India, where she studies Business Management, Physics, Chemistry, Spanish, English, and Mathematics as part of the IB curriculum. While Alekha has a demonstrably strong academic record across all subjects, having secured numerous accolades for her academic performance in school, her true passion lies in sustainability and environmentalism.

Noticing the lack of an Environmental Society at her school, Alekha took the necessary steps in founding one. Her work leading this Environment Society is informed by environment-related enrichment opportunities she has participated in, including the ‘Social Entrepreneurship for Young Changemakers’ course offered by Columbia VFA, and participated in the Harvard Sustainability and Innovation Challenge, having made it to the final round with her proposed project, Project Koli, which works to introduce waste management practices in Mumbai’s Worli-Koliwada area.

In addition to her dedication to environmentalism, Alekha is actively engaged in a range of extracurricular activities including dance, art, and photography. She has been training in Odissi since 2012 and recently completed her Manch Pravesh, her first solo performance consisting of five pieces. Alekha began experimenting with visual art in 2019 and has since received commendation certificates and awards for her participation in art competitions, and also honed her skills by attending the ‘Ashcan Basic Technical Drawing’ course in New York. Additionally, Alekha has also been dabbling in photography since 2017, and has since enrolled in a formal photography institute and has also published her photographs in The FreePress Journal and the school magazine.
